Girl's Bedroom and central attic partitions

Hello all,
I hope you are all doing well and not going too crazy in preperation for the holidays!
I finished the Girl's Bedroom today.

The biggest challenge was the door. It took me a while to commit to a design. I decided on a classic pannel on the bottom half and linen fold detail for the top. The field aroung the linen fold looked a bit empty, so I took a basewood corbel, sliced it, and glued it into the inner corners of the frame. All the other bedroom doors will be the same, only finished in faux-walnut.

Instead of hanging picture frames in this room, I'm thinking of making a half round canopy with curtains to go over the headboard. Most likely it will be blue and white silk with gold trim.

I also put up some partitions in the central part of the attic for the Nursery and Bathroom.

The Nursery will be 21" x 15"

To the left of the fireplace there will be a built in bench with curtains. Over the fireplace I cut out an opening that is over an inch deep for a 1:144 roombox. I'm not sure, but I'm thinking of a scene from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. On the back wall, where the crib is, I'm going to make a puppet theater, and I want to make a child height table with dolls, puppets and several different teapots...yes, Alice's Adventures in wonderland and Through the Looking Glass are amongst my favorite stories.
The bathroom will measure 13 x 13. I have white and pale green victorian tile sheets for the walls, and Mahogany bathroom furniture (sink, Toilet, bathtub and cabinet) from bespaq. I'm not sure what will go where just yet.

Finally, I've mentionned before that I am not a fan of spray adhesive. and here is why:

The parquet section of the Great Room floor came right up. It was an easy fix, I just re-glued everything with The ultimate Glue and stacked books on top overnight, but I can officially say I've gone from not liking spray adhesive to hating, loathing, and abominating the stuff.

And now I'm off to make supper. I hope everyone has a wonderful week and good luck with last minute shopping and holiday preperation.

All the best,
Giac

  1. ¡¡Hola Giac!!

  3. Great work Giac. The girl's bedroom looks so pretty and the canopy above the bed willset off the wallpaper perfectly. I LOVE your idea of doing a 1:144 room box, and then setting it above the fire. Genius! And wonderful stories to draw inspiration from. As for the spray adhesive, I hav enever used the stuff, but had thought of trying it after seeing how well John's Entrance Hall wallpaper went up. Now I'm wondering whether I should stick with what I know. Have a great week in the run up to Christmas.
    Best wishes

  5. I love the nursery ideas, especially the 1/144th roombox. :o))This is one massive project!

I've never used spray adhesive, I've never thought it would have enough strength in it and your flooring has at least proved me right on that one. I am pleased you have found a remedy and your flooring is staying down! I use resin based glue for my flooring, it's stronger than wood glue and doesn't warp the wood, especially good for veneers. ;o)

Have a wonderful Christmas and a great New Year!
    Michelle :o))

  9. The girls room is so pretty! (LOVE the wallpaper, of course, since I used it myself)!

The nursery is going to be a show-stopper!

That's too bad about the spray adhesive. I've used it before with success...I found it helps to spray both surfaces, let it dry for a minute and then adhere.

Giac, hope you have a very, Merry Christmas!!!

  11. It's a beautiful room - one any little girl would be proud of and your ideas for the nursery are inspiring. I love the thought of the little theatre inset too. The use of the half corbel on the door was a great idea. I'd never have thought of that one.

I'm not a fan of spray adhesive either although it has it's uses.

    Mely

Hello Giac ... is not that I build a room like a 1:1 scale? It is a dream! How nice to wake up and admire the scenery! I felt like a queen!
I think a canopy is the most elegant solution, although I would not do for you blue, but a nice shade of green and gold, to recall the trees in the background, in my opinion there is too blue, the bed would disappear into the wall .
What can I say .. even if late ... good dinner!

I forgot ... I changed the photo in my profile ...and do not panic... if you've just eaten ... avoids looking at her!
    a kiss

  13. Hi Giac,

It's been a while since I've dropped by and its looking fantastic. The little girls room is so pretty. I would love to shrink down and wake up in that room. I also think the canopy would be lovely.

I can't wait to drop back and see the little room box when it's done.

    Your a marvel Giac.

    Happy Holidays,

    Fi

  14. Great work. Where did you find that wallpaper? I have used spray adhesive before, It seems to work pretty well if you spray both surfaces and use a steady amount of pressure to apply. Merry Christmas!

  18. WOW, Giac! What a GORGEOUS room!!!! I LOVE the wallpaper.... the furniture..... the painting above the hearth... EVERYTHING! And a Canopy.... French Demilune? would be Just DIVINE!!! I think this "Girl" must really be a "Young Lady".... her room is SO Sophisticated and Elegant! There MUST be a hint of lace in that Canopy.... to match the lacy furniture..... I LOVE the colors!

And the plans for the Attic sound VERY Creative! What a FUN place that would be to play in!!!! You are really making an AWESOME Manor!
